The Inca Trail, gracefully winding through the jagged peaks and high-mountain jungles of Peru on its way to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, is what "adventure travel" is all about. No other place on earth combines such spectacular natural beauty with such marvelous intrigue. Over a distance of only 27 miles, the Inca Trail passes through high-mountain desert, cloud forest, mountain passes with elevations of nearly 14,000 feet and orchid-rich jungle on its way to Machu Picchu, "The Lost City of the Incas." The Trail seems to traverse and transcend both space and time as trekkers along the route experience the same stunning vistas -- and the same inexplicable sense of power -- as those seen and felt by the ancients on their pilgrimage to Machu Picchu during the height of the Inca Empire.
The centerpiece of the sojourn is the four-day Inca Trail trek, but there is much more to see and experience. We will spend one day in Cuzco, the ancient capital city of the Inca Empire, and one day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. While acclimatizing in preparation for the Inca Trail we will visit temples, view art treasures centuries old and explore some of the most impressive architectural feats in the world, including the Temple of the Sun and Sacsayhuaman. The stones used to build the temple and great walls of Sacsayhuaman fit so perfectly, it is impossible to slip even a razor blade between them. Incredibly, many of the stones weigh more than 100 tons each!.
It is impossible to capture the grandeur of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu on film, or to describe it adequately in words. It can only be experienced first-hand. We created Cusco Travel specifically for this purpose -- to guide you on a journey of discovery that will engage your curiosity and expand your soul. To discover what the journey holds for you, we invite you to join us on this unique adventure to experience the mystery of the Incas and Machu Picchu.
